Your Old Cellular Phone
The
Problem
In
the US, cell phone use has
surged from 340,000 subscribers
in 1985 to over 175 million
today. The average life span
of a cell phone is 18 months.
It is estimated that by the
year 2007, 150 million cell
phones and other mobile devices
(PDAs, pagers) will become
obsolete and discarded each
year in the US, and that
over 750 million used cell
phones will be stockpiled
in US homes and offices.
Millions more will have made
their way to landfills. For
environmental reasons, you
should never throw away a
cell phone -- they contain
many toxins such as arsenic,
antimony, beryllium, cadmium,
copper, lead, nickel, and
zinc. When old cell phones
are disposed of in the solid
waste system and not handled
as hazardous waste and recycled,
the toxins they contain can
leach into the groundwater
and air.
The
Solution
EasyCall Cellular has partnered
with CollectiveGood to
recycle used cellular phones
for the benefit of charities
around the world. You have

About
CollectiveGood
CollectiveGood creates
financially productive partnerships
with charities and companies
to ensure that the benefits
of mobile phones are maximized,
and their environmental impact
is minimized. We pioneered
the concept of providing
marketing, operations and
logistics support to charities
and the private sector to
create innovative used mobile
phone collection campaigns
that are successful in every
community.
By reusing these phones,
the greatest possible value
is perpetuated from these
devices; consumers are offered
a socially and environmentally
responsible means of disposing
of their old mobile phones,
charities generate newfound
funds to further their missions,
and we all take steps to
bridge the digital divide
by providing affordable modern
communications to citizens
in the developing world.
Our low-cost, refurbished
mobile phones are used to
provide affordable wireless
service throughout the Caribbean,
Latin America, Eastern Europe
and India.
CollectiveGood recycles
all donated non-functioning
mobile phone batteries in
an environmentally responsible
manner through our relationship
with the Rechargeable Battery
Recycling Corporation, and
all unusable mobile phones
are disposed of in accordance
with all local and national
environmental standards.
